Nampa Public Library gets treated like a checkout counter by people who’ve never actually walked in. That’s a mistake. This building anchors Library Square, and it’s a lot more building than most people expect from a library.
The current library opened in 2015 as part of the Library Square project, and at 62,000 square feet, it’s more than double the size of the old one. The centerpiece is a three-story mural running up the open stairwell, paid for by private donations and made by local artists, so every floor gets its own piece of the art.
The library sits at 215 12th Avenue South, close enough to the Train Depot and the Farmers Market that you can knock out all three in one downtown loop. Hours run Monday through Thursday from 10am to 8pm, Friday 9am to 6pm, Saturday 10am to 5pm, and it’s closed Sunday. There’s a parking garage right next door, and the first hour is free.
Nampa Public Library isn’t only that building on 12th Avenue. A 24-foot bookmobile, launched in 2023 with a $208,800 grant, makes regular stops at schools, parks, senior centers, and neighborhoods around town, including a standing stop at the Walmart Neighborhood Market every other Thursday. You can check out and return books there, get signed up for a library card on the spot, and use Wi-Fi or a laptop on board. Any group, school, or HOA can request a stop through the library’s website.
This surprises a lot of people: Nampa Public Library has a Multipurpose Room that holds up to 134 people, with projection screens built in, plus a board room and smaller study rooms. Any adult Lynx cardholder can reserve them, usually a few business days out. It’s a legit option for a small business meeting, a training session, or a community event.
This isn’t a quiet-shushing-only kind of building anymore. Guitar lessons run every Wednesday evening for teens and up, no experience needed. Fit and Fall Proof classes help older adults build strength and balance. Mahjong players take over a table most weeks, and it’s open to anyone who wants to learn. There’s also a 3D printing service, so if you’ve got a design file, staff will walk you through printing it, with cardholders getting priority in the queue. Check the library’s online calendar for what’s running the week you plan to visit.
