If someone asked me to recommend just one summer event that captures the spirit of Nampa, the Nampa Festival of the Arts would be near the top of my list.
I’ve been attending the festival for well over two decades – honestly, I can’t even remember the first year I went. It’s one of those weekends I look forward to every summer. Sometimes I visit just on Saturday, but other years I find myself coming back on Sunday simply because I enjoy the atmosphere.
Over the years I’ve gone with Isaac, spent the day with girlfriends, and last summer I brought my family from Hungary when they came to visit Idaho. They absolutely loved it. One of the treasures we brought home was a handcrafted wooden carving in the shape of Idaho, and today it’s hanging on their wall in Hungary as a reminder of their time in Nampa.
If you’ve never been, you’re in for a treat.

The Nampa Festival of the Arts is one of the Treasure Valley’s largest outdoor art festivals and one of Nampa’s longest-running annual traditions.
Held every August at beautiful Lakeview Park, the festival brings together nearly 200 artists, makers, craftspeople, food vendors, musicians, and community organizations for a weekend celebrating creativity and local talent.
Unlike many outdoor markets, the focus is on handmade and original creations. You’ll meet the artists, hear the stories behind their work, and discover items you simply won’t find in a big-box store.
Whether you’re decorating your home, searching for a unique gift, or simply looking for one of the best free things to do in Nampa, the Festival of the Arts is well worth the visit.
Every year I tell myself I’m just going to browse.
Every year I leave with something.
Part of the fun is never knowing what you’ll discover. Some years it’s a beautiful piece of wall art. Other years it’s homemade jelly, handcrafted woodwork, spice blends, unique gifts, or simply a fresh lemonade while enjoying the music.
One year I found an incredible painting of an elk that I thought Isaac would love. I decided to walk around first and come back for it later.
When I returned, it was gone.
I’ve never made that mistake again.
If you see something you truly love, buy it. Original artwork is one of a kind, and once it’s sold, it’s usually gone.
Browse paintings, photography, sculptures, pottery, glass art, metalwork, woodworking, mixed media, and more created by talented artists from Idaho and throughout the Northwest.
From jewelry and textiles to candles, soaps, leather goods, home décor, quilts, and seasonal decorations, there are hundreds of handcrafted items to explore.
Even if you don’t consider yourself an art collector, don’t skip the food vendors.
Over the years I’ve taken home delicious locally made jelly, spice blends, specialty food products, and of course, fresh lemonade while walking through the festival.
Music adds to the relaxed atmosphere throughout the weekend, making it easy to slow down, sit in the shade, and enjoy the day.

Families will find activities for kids, including the popular Kid’s Art Booth, making this one of my favorite family-friendly events in Nampa.
Many visitors don’t realize artists are also competing in a juried art show with awards in several categories, including the People’s Choice Award.
One of the things I appreciate most is that you’re buying directly from the people who created the artwork.
You can ask questions, learn about their process, and often hear the story behind a piece before deciding to take it home.
That personal connection is something online shopping simply can’t replace.

Saturday mornings are definitely the busiest, but they’re also when you’ll find the best selection. If you’re hoping to purchase artwork, don’t wait until late afternoon.
Plan on walking. With nearly 200 booths spread throughout Lakeview Park, you’ll easily spend two or three hours exploring.
August afternoons in Nampa can get warm. Bring a refillable water bottle, wear sunscreen, and take advantage of the shade throughout the park.
Trust me – you’ll probably end up buying more than you planned.
